Nokē: smart lock app and web portal design
After finishing my work with Prempoint, I was put in touch with David Gengler, Co-founder and President of Nokē. He and his team had a growing product that needed some UI design and UX love.
Nokē is a powerful Bluetooth lock platform with smart access control, automated key management and audit trails, used to manage locks at home and across whole businesses.
Learning the product first
My first job was to learn how their locks and platform actually worked. They sent me some Bluetooth locks and I got busy testing them and working out how to improve the UX of the app.
Next I created high fidelity wireframes and talked David and his team through my ideas over a screen share. Their feedback led to a Q&A session where we explored more possibilities and features.
iOS app and web app UI design
I then took some time away from the team and designed fresh UI for both their iOS app and their web app portal. The designs went down well, and I moved on to working with their developers to make sure every detail was covered.
This project was a big step forward for me. Not only was the product cross-platform, it was also a physical product with its own limitations and possibilities, which is a very different design challenge from a screen-only app.
The end result is a clean, easy to use and smart application that I’m very proud of. Even better, my designs became the basis for other parts of their business as they continued to grow and release new products.
