How much for an App?
You wouldn’t believe how many email enquiries I get simply asking this question, “How much for an App?”
If you’re a freelance designer and work within the technology sector you’ve probably had this email too, it’s frustrating and IMO lazy.

So before you fire off that email asking a professional to give you a cost for a project, try thinking about these things…
-
What does the app do?
-
Describe in detail your app functionality
-
What platforms are you looking at?
-
Who’s your target audience?
-
What’s your budget?
-
Do you have competitors, if so who are they?
-
Do you have a engineering team / developers ready?
-
What limitations do you have from a technical point of view?
-
Do you require advanced features such as admin tools?
-
Do you have a prototype or beta?

The BEST way to approach a designer or developer about your project is to send them a detailed brief, listing requirements and breaking down everything covered above.
Don’t worry, there’s lots of resources online to help you. Start with Canva’s “Writing an effective design brief: Awesome examples and a free template to get you started”

Side note. It’s OK to not know some of these questions but please, try to explain what you want a freelancer to hand over to you, as guesswork can be costly for everyone.

I write lots about freelancing, this post about how to ‘Speak basic UI & UX’ will help when you next approach a designer.
